Execution — Execution Analyst

Applications open

Take ownership of order tickets from the desk's assigned Fundamentals teams and the house programme. You will decide how to split, time and price smaller orders while respecting the original instruction. This role suits students interested in practical trading decisions; coding is optional.

What you'll do

Arm: Execution · Places: 4 per team · Team size: 6

About QTE

Queen's Tower Exchange is a financial-markets simulation for Imperial College London students. Teams use live market data to learn investment and trading skills with simulated capital.

Responsibilities

  • Work assigned tickets through completion, cancellation or expiry.
  • Choose manual execution, a provided scheduler or a team algorithm.
  • Monitor filled shares, shares reserved by outstanding orders and remaining quantities.
  • Coordinate with teammates under the shared 50% rolling 30-minute participation cap per instrument.
  • Resubmit cancelled child quantities when appropriate and record interventions.
  • Escalate requests to change the parent instruction to its originator.

What success looks like

Accurate order handling and thoughtful decisions about cost and completion. Planned completion is a target; tickets can continue afterwards under their existing rules. You may manage child orders but cannot amend or cancel the parent instruction. Team scoring rewards both cost savings and delivery.

Prerequisite knowledge

  • Comfort with arithmetic, percentages and numerical displays.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to keep track of several tasks.
  • Clear communication and willingness to ask for help when an instruction is unclear.
  • Interest in making decisions from changing information.

No trading experience, finance degree or programming background is required.

Useful, but not required

Spreadsheets, basic market knowledge, coding or experience in an operational team activity.

What you'll be taught

Much of your learning will take place during a dedicated training week, held after teams are selected and before trading begins. Your Head of Arm will deliver lectures exclusively for the teams in your arm, giving you a strong grounding in the concepts and tools you will use in your role.

  • Order books, spreads, liquidity and the costs of completing a large trade.
  • Parent and child orders, limits, reservations and participation controls.
  • QTE's manual blotter and standard time-weighted and percentage-of-volume schedulers.
  • How to balance urgency and price, track delivery and explain an intervention.
