Options Market Making — Quantitative Developer

Applications open

Build your desk's automated options quoting and hedging logic. You will work with researchers on SPY and AAPL options, using the exchange's supplied pricing, Greeks, runtime and analytics. Your focus is the team's strategy code and its behaviour in changing markets.

What you'll do

Arm: Options — Market Making · Places: 2 per team · Team size: 7

About QTE

Queen's Tower Exchange is a financial-markets simulation for Imperial College London students. Teams build strategies on live market data and trade with simulated capital.

Responsibilities

  • Implement quote placement, sizing, inventory adjustments and qualifying stock hedges.
  • Integrate researchers' signals with position and risk checks.
  • Handle daily strike changes, reducing-only contracts and pre-expiry cutoffs.
  • Test unavailable Greeks, stale inputs, partial fills and connection failures.
  • Make cure, halt and cancellation behaviour explicit, with traceable versions and configurations.

What success looks like

Quoting and hedging code that is reliable, inspectable and consistent with the desk's current permissions. The team competes on trading quality, market share and risk discipline; good handling of unusual states is part of that performance.

Prerequisite knowledge

  • Confidence programming and debugging in Python or another general-purpose language.
  • Basic understanding of data structures, tests and version control.
  • Experience completing a coding project and explaining how it works.
  • Willingness to learn options concepts and work closely with researchers.

Previous options knowledge or finance employment is not required for this engineering role.

Useful, but not required

Python, numerical computing, APIs, event-driven programming or basic derivatives knowledge.

What you'll be taught

Much of your learning will take place during a dedicated training week, held after teams are selected and before trading begins. Your Head of Arm will deliver lectures exclusively for the teams in your arm, giving you a strong grounding in the concepts and tools you will use in your role.

  • Option contracts, Greeks and the purpose and limits of stock hedging.
  • How to use QTE's supplied option data, risk tools and strategy runtime.
  • How quoting obligations and contract transitions affect strategy logic.
  • How to test risk restrictions, including the specific qualifying-hedge permissions during an options halt.
  • How to compare algorithm versions through recorded and live sessions.
